Baseball Slips Past Spellman

Playing at home, Whitman-Hanson scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and held on to beat Cardinal Spellman.

Senior Evan Clark became a pinch runner in the bottom of the sixth inning for W-H, went to second on a fielder’s choice, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored the Panther’s winning run on another wild pitch.

Devin Coulstring pitched for W-H,  scattering 5 hits, striking out 6 Spellman batters, and walking only 2 in his 6+ inning winning performance.

Spellman threatened in the top of the seventh before Tommy Marshall came on in relief with two men on and no outs.  Marshall preserved the win for the Panthers by retiring the next 3 Spellman batters in order.

Both  Whitman-Hanson pitchers were  involved in scoring W-H’s first run in the third inning. Tommy Marshall singled to lead the inning off. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt by Ethan Phelps, Coulstring scored Marshall on a fieldert’s choice.

Whitman-Hanson is now 13-5 overall and 9-4 in the Patriot League.
