Press Release

Whitman- After one of the best seasons in school history, Whitman-Hanson boys hockey coach Chris Googins has stepped down. Coach Googins, who also serves as a history teacher and dean of students at Whitman Hanson, has had two separate tours of duty on the WH bench. He served six seasons as the boys hockey coach in the early 2000’s before departing to take over the head coaching responsibilities at Framingham State University.   He returned to coach the  Panthers in  2016 and steadily rebuilt the program going from just one win four years ago to a sectional semifinal appearance this year leading WH to a 17 win campaign.

“This is a huge loss for our school, but I get it.  Not only is Chris a tremendous coach he is an even better father. His youngest son is playing hockey in college and he simply did not want to miss the opportunity to share that journey with him,” Whitman Hanson Athletic Director Bob Rodgers said.

Whitman-Hanson posted the position today on the MIAA website and will accept applicants over  the next few weeks with the hope of having a new coach in place by the end of June.

“Coach Googins touched all the bases as a high school coach.  He taught his players so much more than just hockey and in his final lesson to the boys he showed them that family always come first.  We are fortunate that he will  remain with our school in his current teaching position,” Rodgers said.

Chris Googins record over the last four years
19/20: 17-6-1
18/19: 10-10-1
17/18: 8-10-2
16/17: 1-16-3
