Whitman-Hanson Wrestling 2/7/15

The Whitman-Hanson Panther Wrestling team continued its winning way this weekend by securing three close victories on Saturday over Bristol-Plymouth, Beverly and Marshfield.
First up against Bristol-Plymouth senior captain Cory Reid (106 lbs.) and junior Mike McDonough (126 lbs.) got things started with pins early in the contest. Juniors Luke Rogers (138 lbs.) , Joe Arico (152 lbs.) and sophomore Dan Bean (160 lbs.) each secured wins by points to keep things close. Junior Nate Perkins helped secure a win for the team with his pin at 182 lbs. The final tally was 41-28 in favor of the Panthers.
Beverly was up next and they brought the notorious tough North Shore style of wrestling with them. W-H had some tough kids ready to roll as well, as sophomore Jake Filicicchia (120 lbs.) and junior Mike McDonough got things started in the right direction with each securing impressive 11-4 victories in their matches. Freshman Caleb Lenihan was ready to do his part and went onto the mat expecting nothing less than a win. He pinned his Beverly opponent in the first period. As the match went on the Panthers needed three pins from the rest of the line up to secure a win. They got them by way of Nate Perkins, Cole Berthelette and Joe Arico to squeak out the 36-35 victory.
For the third meet on the day W-H faced off against Marshfield and once again Mike McDonough and Caleb Lenihan started the contest with a pair of pins to give the Panthers the early lead. Following them with victories of their own was Joe Arico, Dan Bean, Cole Berthelette and Cory Reid. The match stayed close for a long time but in the end W-H defeated the Rams 46-33.
