Panthers Golf falls to Dragons

The Whitman-Hanson golf team lost a heartbreaker to Duxbury today at Ridder Farm Golf Club 232-235. The match was extremely competitive, as it was still up for grabs with the final pairing coming in. Senior captain Cole Manning shot a 1 over par to start things off, out playing his opponent by 3 strokes. After the second group, the Panthers were down by 6. Despite impressive play by senior Joe Young, who turned in a 4 over 38, and freshman Owen Manning, who shot a 6 over 40, group three dropped two more strokes to the visitors and the team went down by 8.Senior Pat Tyler lead the last group with a 4 over par 38 performance, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, as the Panthers could only get it to within 3 strokes."As a coach, my main objective is to always try to be competitive; despite the loss, I'm really proud of how we played as a team. Of course a loss like this is never easy, especially against a powerhouse like Duxbury, but I think a lot of positives can come from today's play. Hopefully we can use them to catapult us back into the win column next week."The team's record drops to 2-3 overall after today's defeat. The Panthers are back in action on Monday, as they will travel to Waverly Oaks to face Plymouth South.
