Whitman-Hanson serves way to victory over Plymouth South

The Whitman-Hanson Panthers volleyball welcomed Plymouth South to their gym and played a strong match earning the victory 3 games to 1.  The game scores were 25-18, 25-10, 23-25 and 25-11.  In the first set the Panthers were led early by solid hitting and serving from Senior tri-captain Sophie O'Brien and great defense by Cathryn Johnson.  The score went back and forth for much of the first set until setter Tori Perry stepped to the service line and scored 5 aces to give the Panthers a 24-17 lead.  Plymouth South served out to give the Panthers the first set win.  In the second set the Panthers were once again helped to victory by strong serving from Jordyn Keith and Amanda Anderson.  The Panthers serving kept Plymouth South from getting into any rhythm on offense and was really the deciding factor in the entire match.  The second set win was sealed by an ace from Devyn Smith.  The third set was not a bright spot for the Panthers tonight as they really struggled to pass the ball accurately which led to lots of points being given away to Plymouth South.  In the end Plymouth South was able to secure the third set victory thanks to their solid defense.

The Panthers decided that they had played around enough and dug into the fourth set to put themselves in a position to win the match.  The Panthers got started early with kills from Lily Spicer and Halle Julian but the real story of the final set was the serving of Jordyn Keith.  Keith stepped to the service line with the score at 11-5 and pushed the lead to 16-5 with 5 aces in a row and the Panthers never looked back.  The night was capped with an ace by Tori Perry to secure the set and match victory.  Leading the way for the Panthers tonight were Keith with 30 aces, O'Brien with 15 kills and 11 blocks and Julian with 9 kills and 8 blocks.  The Panthers move to 4-5 on the season and host Duxbury on Friday.
