Update

We are less than a month away from the start of winter sports.  It is extremely important that all students who wish to play a winter sport have their parents sign up online at www.whathletics.com .  All physicals should be emailed to physical@whrsd.org.  Students should check the list in the athletic hallway to make sure you are signed up.

The Whitman Hanson cheerleaders hosted the Patriot League championships on Sunday morning and won again for the 16th straight fall league championship and 28th straight overall.  This is an incredible accomplishment and is a result of so much hard work, dedication and discipline.  A big thank you to our head coach Alyssa Pietrasik and assistant coach Keryn Cordo for their amazing leadership.  Also, thank you to all of the parents and alumni who helped makes the invitational so successful.  The team now advances to the regionals next Sunday in Marshfield.

The football team has battled hard all season and that perseverance finally paid off Friday night when the Panthers recorded their first win of the season beating Pembroke 32-14 giving head coach Zach Botelho his first varsity win.  Senior Andrew Cloutman led the way for the Panthers, returning a first quarter punt for a touchdown, rushing for a touchdown, and adding an interception on defense. Senior Jake Guiliani added a rushing score and an interception return for a touchdown. The final touchdown for the Panthers came on a 22 yard throw and catch from junior Cam Burrows to senior Bobby Hunter. The offensive and defensive lines played outstanding all night led by senior Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder and juniors Maddox Colclough and Noah Hopkins.  The Panthers are back in action Friday night at home at 6:30pm when Whitman Hanson hosts Quincy in a non playoff game.

Whitman Hanson girls soccer opened the MIAA State Tournament with a 6-0 win over Northampton. The Panthers came out flying right from the opening whistle when Madeleine Fitzgerald, Kayla Cassidy, and Lauryn Fostello all found the back of the net in the first five minutes and putting WH up 3-0. Nora Manning (3 assists) added 2 more while Olivia Borgen added another. The defensive play of Emily Leitch, Megan Bizier, Skylar Jordan and Makenna Marshall was outstanding in front of keepers Ava Patete and Ayla Dernier who shared the shutout. Ava Melia and Savannah Kamperides turned in strong performances.  The Panthers will host Minnechaug in the round of 16 on Tuesday at 5pm.  All tickets should be purchased at www.gofan.co .  Just search Whitman Hanson beginning on Monday.
