WH wrestling wraps up regular season

The W-H Hanson Panther wrestling team ventured to Plymouth North High School this Saturday for a Quad meet to face off with New Bedford, Plymouth North and Oliver Ames.

First up for the Panthers was New Bedford. Colin Bain (113 lbs.) started things off quickly with a :42 second pin followed by Luke Rogers (120 lbs.) with a :58 second pin. New Bedford then put together a string of wins before Zach Perkins (152 lbs.) pinned his New Bedford opponent in the 3rd period. Coming behind Perkins, Ryan Henderson (160 lbs.) pulled out an exciting 3-2 victory and Mark Rogers (170 lbs.) stuck his opponent in the second period. Winning two of the last four matches for the Panthers were Greg McGrath (195 lbs.) by a score of 9-2 and Nate Baker (285 lbs.) 4-2. The overall team scored still left W-H to come up a little short of the victory...40-34

W-H then faced Plymouth North. Tyson Plause (126 lbs.) got things going in the right direction for the Panthers with a 2nd period pin followed by Kevin Meehan (132 lbs.) with a 2nd period pin and a 12-0 victory by Brody Deminico (138 lbs.). Ryan Henderson (160 lbs.) also pulled out another close win 6-4 before the Panthers lost a string of matches. Greg McGrath (195 lbs.) put a stop to the losses with 2nd period pin of his PS opponent before Colin Bain (106 lbs) rounded out the event with a 2nd period pin. The overall team scored once again saw the Panthers come up a little short for the victory...42-31.

For the third match up of the day the Panthers took on Oliver Ames. Oliver Ames took this one 42-33 after the Panthers fell behind early and just could not recover. Still gaining individual wins for the Panthers during the loss were Ryan Henderson (160 lbs), Mark Rogers (170 lbs.), Connor Balinger (182 lbs.), Cole Bertholette (195 lbs.) and in the match of the day Greg McGrath (220 lbs) by a score of 9-6. McGrath was bumped up a weight class to face a tougher Oliver Ames opponent and he pulled off an impressive win.

Next up for the Panthers is the Division II South Sectionals Saturday February 9th. The Panthers won't need to travel far as the prestigious tournament will be hosted at Whitman-Hanson High this year.
