The Whitman-Hanson Varsity Golf team defeated the North
Quincy Red Raiders today at President’s Golf Course (par 34) 239-285. The team
was excited to start the season off at 1-0 with a solid performance by the
entire team.
Senior captain Owen Manning led all golfers with his 2
over par 36, while juniors Matt Korzec and Ian Brown each turned in a 5 over
par performance. Sophomore Aidan Miller also shot a 6 over.
The standout for North Quincy was sophomore Tom Roche who
carded an 8 over par performance.
“As such a young team, today’s win was really important
for us to gain some confidence early on in the season. I’m happy for these guys
today, but we have a very difficult test for us tomorrow against Plymouth
North, so we need to continue to stay focused,” said head coach Brian Dempsey
after the match.
The team will travel to Plymouth Country Club tomorrow
for their second league match.
