Update

The first spring high school sporting events in more than 600 days were finally played Thursday. The schedule maker was not kind to our tennis teams which had to open with league power Duxbury and the Dragons took both matches, 5-0. Our boys and girls lax teams also opened the season with losses again Silver Lake but the baseball and softball teams got off to a good start.

The softball team beat both Duxbury (Thursday) and East Bridgewater (Saturday). In the 5-4 win at Duxbury, Sophomore Haley Leeber blasted a 2 run homer in the first inning and Abby Cleary pitched a full 7 innings with 5 strikeouts. On Saturday, Lauren Meade had a career day, pitching a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts through 5 innings while also collecting four hits including a home run in the first to lift the Panthers to a 12-0 win. Olivia Turocy tacked on 4 runs in the third with a grand slam.

The baseball team also opened the season with a win at Duxbury, 5-0. Senior Co-Captain Tommy Marshall threw an opening season shutout against Duxbury scattering 6 hits and striking out 9 and walking only 1 Duxbury batter.
On offense, senior Ty Gordon had a hit and 2 rbi, and junior Ethan Smith also had a hit and an rbi as the Panthers scored 2 in the fourth inning, 2 in the fifth, and 1 in the sixth. Tommy Marshall and Evan Yakavonis also had hits for Whitman-Hanson.

Here is a look ahead to the next two weeks. As a reminder, the best place to get up to date and accurate scheduling info is the MIAA app and our Twitter account @whathletics . Max Preps is not always accurate.
