Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team went 0-1-1 this week, highlighted by an impressive tie against league leader and defending champion Duxbury.

Duxbury opened the scoring eight minutes in, but keeper Addison Hughes and the defensive unit of Shelby Bell, Devin Olsweski, Millie Mahoney and Victoria Gallego held firm the rest of the way. In the second half, the Panthers kept up their strong defensive effort and began creating chances. With 15 minutes remaining, Skylar Griffin took on two Duxbury defenders, worked her way through and slotted the ball into the corner of the net for the equalizer.

Strong midfield play from Keira Manchester, Mya Andrews, Bella Delorenzo and Olivia Poulin helped Whitman-Hanson secure the tie. It was an outstanding team effort against one of the league's best.

Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team went 0-2 this week, running into two tough opponents in Marshfield and Duxbury. The Panthers now turn their attention to Senior Night on Tuesday against Plymouth North. The ceremony starts at 5:50 p.m., with kickoff at 6 p.m. The team is looking to make a final push for a spot in the state tournament. Come out and support our seniors!

Boys Cross Country
The Whitman-Hanson boys cross country team (1-4) traveled to Duxbury High School for its final dual meet of the season and downed the host Dragons 25-33. Duxbury took the top two spots, but the Panthers swept the next six positions to lock up the win.

Junior Jackson DeLue was once again the first Panther across the line, as he has been all season. He finished third overall on the challenging 2.97-mile course in 18:13. Following DeLue were:

  • Sophomore Brendan Clark – 4th, 18:34
  • Junior Dylan Meredith – 5th, 18:35
  • Senior Caeleb Rouse – 6th, 19:18
  • Junior Bryce Weckbacher – 7th, 19:19
  • Senior Josh Hadden – 8th, 19:25

Girls Cross Country
The Whitman-Hanson girls cross country team also took on a strong Duxbury squad on the tough 2.97-mile course. Duxbury's depth proved decisive as the Dragons claimed a 19-38 team victory, taking the top two spots led by senior Riley Earle.

The Panthers battled hard throughout. Allie Boss led the way in third (21:50), followed by Julianna DeLue in sixth (22:16), Lilly Smith in eighth, Lindsey Brzuszek in 10th (23:55), and Anais Moetz, who fought hard for 11th (24:13).

Field Hockey
The Whitman-Hanson field hockey team battled the Marshfield Rams to a 1-1 tie at home. The Rams scored their only goal in the first quarter. The Panthers answered in the second when senior forward Paige Sampson converted a penalty corner with a blistering forehand sweep.

Whitman-Hanson was the more dominant offensive team in the second half but couldn't get past the Marshfield defense for the go-ahead goal. Senior midfielder Tayla DeLue played exceptionally well, especially in setting up the forwards in the offensive zone. Senior defender Lilly Jones continued to shine, clearing numerous Marshfield chances and moving the ball up the field to spark the Panthers' attack.

The Panthers are 3-5-3 overall and 2-5-3 in the Patriot League.

Football
Though Whitman-Hanson fell 34-7 to the Hingham Harbormen, the Panthers continued to play hard and compete.

Defensively, captains Bobby Walker and Osten Brown led the team with eight tackles apiece, and Zach Soper added an impressive five tackles. On offense, Walker rushed for 52 yards and caught two passes for 48 yards. Junior running back Van Le scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and Quinn Frazier added the extra point.

The Panthers host the Duxbury Dragons this Friday at 6 p.m.

Our cheerleaders opened their competition season Sunday at Milford. It was a valuable learning experience and a chance to fine-tune their routine ahead of the league championship in a couple of weeks.

Volleyball
The Whitman-Hanson volleyball team fell to Marshfield in a hard-fought five-set league match (25-13, 20-25, 17-25, 25-21, 9-15).
