Update

Whitman Hanson is well represented in the Patriot Cup with three teams still alive in this first of its kind league tournament.

It was senior Bobby Marshall's turn to take the ball when the baseball team played its first round game for The Patriot Cup down in Plymouth South. Not only did Marshall shut his team's opponent out with a 1-hitter, in the top of the fifth inning he hit a long triple that knocked in senior catcher TJ Whitman, who scored W-H's first run all the way from first with a headfirst slide on a close play.

Then with 2 outs, senior Jack Allen came up and lined a 2-strike single to left to score senior Sam Figueiredo, who had come in to run for Marshall, for Whitman-Hanson's second run.

Bobby Marshall struck out 9 and walked only 1 Plymouth South batter to help Whitman - Hanson get to 9-3 overall.

Co-captain Tommy Marshall, Bobby's brother, and senior Ty Gordon each had a double for Whitman-Hanson.

Co-captain Danny Kent and junior second baseman Aidan Barry made big plays behind Bobby Marshall. The Panthers now advance to the semifinals and await their next opponent which will be determined early this week. The date of the Panthers next game will likely be played Thursday or Friday.

Our softball team also recorded a thrilling first round Patriot Cup come from behind win at Quincy. Lauren Meade went the distance in the circle striking out 8 while also leading the attack at the plate with 2 hits to lift the Panthers to a 6-5 win. Annie Cook, Reese Codero, Haley Leeber, Erin Burke and Emily McDonald all had hits. Whitman Hanson will travel to Marshfield on Tuesday in the second round of the Cup.

Our girls tennis team took their Patriot Cup game at Quincy, 4-1. Julia Benvie and Shannon Burt won at #2 and 3 singles. The first doubles team of Rylie Harlow and Nora Rooney won as well as the second doubles team of Erin Tilley and Kyla Faghan. The girls will also travel to Marshfield on Tuesday in the next round.


Whitman-Hanson Wrestling traveled to Plymouth North for a Patriot League match this week and came away with a win over Plymouth North 42-27. Winners for WH included at 113 pounds Joe Boss (6-0), Pat Collett with a pin in 4:46 (6-2), Damari Goldsmith Greene at 152 with a pin in :50 (8-0), Jason Rapoza with a pin at 182 pounds in 1:04 (3-3), Declan Hanaphy at 195 (6-2), Rocco Ruffini at 220 (7-0). and Maddox Colclough at 285 with a pin in 1:23 (5-3).

The Panthers are now 2-2 in the Patriot League and 5-3 overall. Next up for Whitman-Hanson is a League meet at Hingham at 4:00 pm on Wednesday June 9th. Senior Captain Damari Goldsmith Greene improves his win total to "96" for his career.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Track team (1-2-1) traveled to Hingham where it lost to the Harbormen 104-32. The Panthers got wins from Senior Madison Scaccia in the Triple Jump (32' 10") and Junior Myah Kamperides in the Discus (69' 8"). Also performing well for the Panthers were Junior April Keyes and Sophomore Sydney Pires.

Whitman Hanson Boys Track and Field team traveled to Hingham HS for a meet this week. Panther boys had some good performances but lost to Hingham 115 to 21. Theo Kamperides won the 2 mile and teammate Nathan Tassey finished 2nd. Doing well for Whitman Hanson was Jake Caterer, Gordon Johnson and James Molito. Whitman Hanson boys record is 0-3-1 and next week will travel to Plymouth North HS to finish the dual meet season.

Our boys lax team wrapped up its season last week while the girls lacrosse team lost its Patriot Cup game but will continue to play games to prepare for the MIAA tournament. The girls host Pembroke on Tuesday.
