We Need Your Help

Good Afternoon,
The athletic department is participating in a fundraiser through Liberty Mutual. The Responsible Sports program helps parents and coaches create an athletic experience for their children that is a positive experience for everyone involved. Even if this was not a fundraiser, the information available is extremely worthwhile.

Could you please take 5 minutes and click on this link http://responsiblesports.com/responsible_sport_parenting/responsible_sport_parenting_quiz.aspx

And then click on the blue link that says take the quiz. After taking the quiz you just type in our zip code (02382) and apply the quiz to Whitman-Hanson. We are only 200 votes away from being in the top 6 which would give us a much needed $5,000 grant.

Please pass this along to anyone you think would be willing to help us by taking 5 minutes to take the quiz.

Thank you for all of your support of Whitman-Hanson Regional School District.

Sincerely,

Bob Rodgers

Game On/Homecoming Postponed

The football team is very excited to play host to undefeated Pembroke tomorrow night and that game will be played rain or shine. The only thing that will postpone the game would be lightning. This is a big game for our 4-1 Panthers as it marks the first time former Panther Coach Bob Bancroft returns to Dennis M. O’Brien field.

However, due to the forecast, we are moving the homecoming activities to next Friday night against Silver Lake. We hope that you will join us for both games (bring an umbrella tomorrow!) but in particular next Friday night when each team has a table with various Whitman-Hanson gear available. The student-council tailgate will be held from 4:30pm-6:30pm and the parade of champions will take place at halftime.

Also this weekend, our first place girls soccer team plays host to Bridgewater-Raynham on Saturday. The game is currently scheduled for 3:30pm but we may move it to 6:30pm. We are awaiting confirmation from BR. Once we have the information, we will post it on our blog at www.whathletics.blogspot.com .

We hope to see you at the games.

With Pat Mulrey (JR) being sidelined to injury, the boys are still looking very strong up front. Dylan Foureau, normally our #5 runner, made his comeback after being sidelined for a few weeks. Mid-Term Eligibility

We are just about at the halfway point of the first trimester and our first progress reports will be issued soon. Teachers will have all mid-term grades posted on Infinite Campus by 8am Thursday morning. Our new rule this year states that any student-athlete who receives any grade below C- in any class will be placed on academic probation. This status will require that the student turn in a weekly progress report to his/her coach and to the athletic director. If the coach or athletic director determines that adequate progress is not being made, then the student shall be ineligible to play in any games or meets until the next progress is reported the following week. The purpose of this rule is not punitive. We want every student-athlete to remember which word comes first, STUDENT. Every coach knows that academics come first. They will always let you stay after for extra help or to makeup work. We expect our student-athletes to show the same level of dedication and determination in the classroom as they do in their respective sports.**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Again to summarize: Any student who receives any grade below C-is still eligible to participate, however, the student will be placed on academic probation. This will require a weekly progress report to be filled out. If the student fails to turn in the progress report or if the progress report is unsatisfactory, the student will be ineligible to play in any game or meet until the next progress report.
Please keep in mind that the MIAA eligibility rule guides us at the end of the trimester. In order to be eligible for the winter season, students must earn 8 credits.
If you have any questions regarding any of these rules, please contact Mr. Rodgers at robert.rodgers@whrsd.org .

Close...but Not Close Enough

It came down to the two final pairings to decide this close match between WH and Duxbury at Ridder Farm Golf Course today. Unfortunately for the Panthers, only 2 strokes decided the outcome, as they lost their 4th match of the season 231-229.

Juniors Mike Capellupo and Josh Green were the duel medalists for the Panthers both turning in 37s respectively. Sean Goldman, along side sophomore Sam Webster and freshman Alex Burbank, all shot a 39, which helped keep the match as close as it was.

Despite their heartbreaking loss, the team is setting their sites ahead to Tuesday's match at Farm Neck Golf Club in Martha's Vineyard where they hope to earn their 10th win on the season.

WH Cheerleaders Making a Difference

The State Champion Whitman-Hanson Cheerleaders made a donation to the Whitman CERT Program to help restock their supplies of snacks, water, etc. for our local fire-fighters working at an extended fire scene (including the hurricane called Irene!). The vehicle came up to our campus to collect the supplies. Anotehr example of Whitman-Hanson student-athletes making a difference in our community.
